Mindplay by patrikarvidsson Mindplay by patrikarvidsson

Originally started out as a recreation of one of my older projects, namely time travel ([link]). But I changed course along the way and this is the result!

Information: A little over a week, consisting of ~90 layers. As before; the planet is an earlier creation created and manipulated out of satellite images from NASA's Visible Earth project - with additional manipulations by brushes.

Wacom Graphire 4, Photoshop CS4

First critique, go easy.

The first thing I notice is the light effect, which is absolutely stunning, and gives it a very powerful feel.

Next I noticed the small planet towards the center, and the fact that it's small compared to the anomaly is very powerful.

I think the color choice in this picture is very excellent, and the way there is no perfect shape to it makes it seem even better.

The way the shape of the "cloud" (I know its not a cloud) is layered to give it depth suggests that this anomaly is much larger, and the brilliance of the light coming from the center makes a stunning effect.

Amazing work, you should be proud of it.

I like the arch of the "clouds". It seems to give a better 3d image of a sort of "cave" in the clouds. Nicely done :ahoy:

This is one of the finest and best pieces of space art I have ever seen (and trust me, I have seen a lot).

The lighting, the depth and the general flow/feeling of it is remarkable!
Could you make this image available in some form of 1920x1080 so I can use it as my desktop wallpaper?

Very well done!

The nebula itself looks awesome, but i still thinks it looks like the planet is inside the nebula ;s
Anyways, it is a great progress since your older one. :D
(Didn't know you got an older account, got to check it out ;))

Even the old one still smashes what I was doing in 2005 and my jaw would have dropped at the sight of that back then :XD: but this is certainly a step up from that. It displays a very strong sense of depth - a hard thing to establish in space, and the title fits too - I'm reminded of an ear for some reason, which I guess can lead to the mind :D

I thought that manipulations of cloudstocks did give a certain feeling back then. Just look at =ladyrapid's Celestia. I think that it was a bit too easy though, and you don't have the same control over what you create unless you start using the brush as well - which I didn't.

I can't say that was what I was going for, haha. But you're actually correct, it does look like an ear!

Nonetheless, thank you for your kind words. :)

Oh yeah, he seemed to have stopped using cloud stocks since...before I even arrived here  I'll admit I sneak in some clouds or fractals there, but only from photo's/renders I made myself though, but I agree the best nebulae are painted ones :painter:

And may I add, to great success! His artwork looks a lot better now that he developed his own style. Sadly, he seems to be more into photography nowadays (which I obviously enjoy seeing as well).

Of course, who doesn't. But that's all a part of being creative, ain't it? ;)

True that! I wouldn't stop someone from choosing a new path, but I'll admit I see a lot of digital artists converting solely to photography these days. Both require skill, but I could just never "get" why someone who has a rare and desireable talent just give up on it

But oh well, I'm varied too. Still - I try to rotate between my subjects and styles on a regular basis to stop people (and myself as an artist) from becoming bored :D
